February continues with a rain of unmissable premieres of films by great directors nominated for the Oscars. This week it is the turn of “Perfect Days” by director Wim Wenders (Wings of Desire, Paris, Texas).
In “Perfect Days” Koji Yakusho (13 Assassins) plays Hirayama, a contemplative middle-aged man who lives a life of modesty and serenity, spending his days balancing his job as an attendant of Tokyo’s many public baths with his passion for music, literature and photography. As we join him in his structured daily routine, a series of unexpected encounters gradually begin to reveal a hidden past hiding behind his contented and harmonious life.
Combining a refreshingly unstereotypical depiction of the Japanese capital with a soundtrack composed of iconic hits from the ’60s and ’80s, it is a subtle, brilliant and ultimately affirming reflection on the world’s search for beauty. daily life that surrounds us.

Wenders is one of those disappearing and unique filmmakers who, with an immeasurable filmography, feeds his new films without pretensions and forced quotations, always delirious about the saturation of the city and the lightness of the landscapes, giving the possibility to his characters that “They delight in the poetics of existence, even doing mundane jobs as is the case with our Hirayama.”
