Industries Peñoles reiterates its commitment to the environment and water care, which is why it has treatment plants to supply all of its metallurgical processes.
Currently, about 150 liters per second of liquid that comes from the municipal drainage of this city are treated, and for this, the necessary infrastructure was built that allows the plant to transport wastewater.
“We have been treating wastewater for our metallurgical operations for more than 50 years, which helps us meet operational needs and contribute to the care of such a valuable resource as water in a more sustainable way,” highlighted Rafael Rebollar, director. general of Peñoles.
The company complies with the Mexican standard on the matter and is aligned with the position statement on responsible use of water of the International Council on Mining and Metals, as well as goal 6 of the UN Sustainable Development.
The process of the treatment plants installed by Peñoles is carried out with the help of microorganisms that are responsible for cleaning the residual water. Subsequently, the liquid passes through special sand and activated carbon filters, and ends with the application of ultraviolet light.
Treated water is used for mineral processing, chemical reactions, cooling of industrial equipment, control and prevention of emissions; as well as for the irrigation of the company’s green areas.
Liquid is also provided for the irrigation of ridges and parks in the city of Torreón, for example, the Venustiano Carranza Forest.
It should be noted that the company has been recognized by the Business Coordinating Council, the Communication Council and the Institute for the Promotion of Quality with the distinction of Exceptional Companies in the category of Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals for the results obtained in the treatment plant.
