Pemra bans drama serial ‘Hatasa’

The Pakistan Electronic Media Authority (PEMRA) has immediately banned the airing of the drama serial Accident on Wednesday.

PEMRA has sent the matter to the Council of Complaints while banning the daily drama Accident on Geo Entertainment.

In the notification issued by PEMRA, it is written that Barrister Khadija Siddiqui through Barrister Muhammad Ahmed Pinsota requested to take action under Section 27 of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 against the drama accident.

In the notification, Pemra said that ‘There were many complaints about the drama through Pemra’s KX (formerly Twitter) that the drama was based on an accident on the Sialkot Motorway.

People are of the opinion that this drama will further increase the trauma of the victim and the perception of Pakistan will go around the world that the country is not safe for women.

Speaking to Independent Urdu, Ahmed Pansota, a petitioner in Pemra, said that he was contacted by the victim of the motorway rape case and told that ‘this drama is based on my story and my permission was not even taken before that. .’

The fourth episode of the drama depicts a similar scenario as happened in the motorway rape case.

Hadiqa Kayani is playing the lead role in the drama accident while along with her Khaqan Shahnawaz, Rumisa Khan and Abdullah Javed are also part of the drama.

Explaining about this play, Hadiqa Kayani wrote on social media that ‘when this role was offered to me, my first question was whether it was based on the motorway rape case, and the answer was negative.’
