Pedro Pascal wins Screen Actors Guild Award for “The Last of Us”

Pedro Pascal was crowned best actor in a drama series at the 30th edition of the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG-AFTRA) for his performance as Joel in the HBO series ‘The Last of Us’.

“This is wrong for many reasons, I’m a little drunk. Thank you very much, I have been part of this union since 1999 and this is an honor (…) It is going to give me a heart attack,” said Pascal, moved to tears.

This is the first award to recognize his work on the story adapted from the apocalyptic video game of the same name. In ceremonies such as the Emmys or the Golden Globes, Pascal had been defeated in the same section by Kieran Culkin, who plays Roman Roy in the family drama ‘Succession’, also on HBO.

The rest of the nominees in this category were Brian Cox (‘Succession’), Matthew Macfadyen (‘Succession’) and (‘The Morning Show’).

‘The Las of Us’ tells the journey of Joel himself and the young Ellie (played by Bella Ramsey), who without maintaining family ties reach a close bond, through a destroyed United States while facing all kinds of murderers and ruthless creatures.

A title based on the video game of the same name that the developer company Naughty Dog released in 2014 and that has been so successful that its second installment is already in the production phase.

The ceremony that takes place from the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California, marks the return of these awards after the turbulent year for SAG-AFTRA due to the strike they carried out together with Hollywood screenwriters demanding better working conditions in studios and streaming platforms.
