Pavilions devastated by fire

Thursday evening, around 9:30 p.m., a devastating fire broke out in one of the pavilions facing the majestic Analakely Cathedral, in Antananarivo. The flames quickly spread, engulfing other neighboring buildings before firefighters managed to contain the fire.

Despite the rapid intervention of firefighters, the damage caused by the fire was considerable. According to information collected from the emergency services, the fire was started by a coal fire left unattended by a caretaker. The latter, temporarily absent, was unable to control the fire in time, which led to its rapid spread across the pavilion.

Local authorities, including law enforcement, responded to the scene to assess the situation. Although a preliminary investigation has been carried out, other possibilities as to the origin of the fire have not been ruled out. A thorough investigation was therefore opened in order to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and to avoid similar events in the future.

This fire serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and caution, especially when handling sources of heat or fire. It also highlights the need for owners and custodians of historical and cultural sites to take adequate safety measures to protect these valuable structures from such accidents.
