BJP did not get the expected results in the 18th Lok Sabha elections of India. In the 2019 elections, the party won 18 seats in West Bengal. But in this election they managed to retain 12 seats in the state. Lost possession in six seats. Many heavyweight candidates of the last election could not retain their seats. Bishnupur is one of the 12 constituencies that the BJP has managed to control.

Trinamool Congress candidate Soumitra Khan defeated his ex-wife Sujata Mandal after a tight fight in the seat. Soumitra won by getting 5 thousand 567 votes more than Sujata. But since this result, he has moved against the BJP leadership in the state.

Criticizing the party’s plan even though he himself won, Soumitra said that the BJP lost in some places because of the ‘setting’ of some leaders with the Trinamool. And he won because of the strong efforts of the central leadership and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). This leader claimed that he got this victory because of RSS workers.

But, despite criticizing the leaders of his own party, Soumitra Khan has praised Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee. Apart from Abhishek’s electoral plan, he also praised his ex-wife Sujata Mandal.

Praising his ex-wife, he said, Sujata gave a good fight. This victory would have been easier for me if someone else had been the candidate instead of Sujata.

Appreciating Abhishek Banerjee, this BJP leader said, Abhishek Banerjee has created a system, which many big leaders of the state could not grasp. Trinamool Congress added two Assembly seats to each Lok Sabha seat. Kotulpur and Indas were our targets here. Even though I managed Kotulpur, I could not manage the whole of Indas.

Soumitra also said, we do not have minority votes with us. (Trinamool) won because Abhishek did good work. Besides, our party workers are not trained that way for counting. We were behind in all aspects.

New speculations have started in the state politics around Trinamool Congress All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s eulogy in the mouth of BJP MP Soumitra Khan in Bishnupur.

Soumitra Khan started his political career with National Congress politics. He became an MLA on the 2011 National Congress ticket. He joined Trinamool Congress in 2014. Soumitra joined the BJP in 2019 on the hand of Mukul Roy. He won the Lok Sabha election that year from Bishnupur. Then Soumitra Khan lashed out against Abhishek Banerjee. Soumitra won from Bishnupur constituency on BJP ticket in 2024 as well. However, this time instead of raising the tone against the All India General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress, the BJP leader has praised him.

As a result of this, buzz has started in the political circles, so is Soumitra making way to return to his old party? Will he leave the BJP and join the Trinamool again?

However, Soumitra dismissed that possibility. He said, the day Abhishek Banerjee joins BJP, I will think of joining Trinamool.
