General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced the names of party candidates nominated for reserved women’s seats after the meeting of Awami League’s parliamentary party at Ganobhaban on Wednesday (February 14). Earlier, party president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina exchanged views with the candidates.
At the end of the meeting, Obaidul Quader said that 48 candidates had to be selected after scrutinizing the nomination forms of 1553 candidates for reserved women’s seats. With the permission of party president Sheikh Hasina and unanimous consent, I am publishing the names of the nominated candidates of Awami League in 48 constituencies.
He said that we will submit the nomination form to the Returning Officer of the Election Commission on February 18. Candidates have to collect nomination form and necessary documents.
According to the announced list, Finance and Planning Secretary Wasika Ayesha Khan has been nominated among the central leaders of Awami League. He is a Member of Parliament for three consecutive terms. Agriculture and Cooperative Secretary Faridunnahar Laili was nominated for Lakshmipur-4 seat in the 12th parliamentary elections. But his nomination was withdrawn as Jasad vacated the seat. He was the MP for the reserved seat in the 9th National Parliament. Awami League Education and Human Resources Secretary Shamsun Nahar Champa has been nominated for the first time. Rokeya Sultana, health affairs secretary of the party, got the first nomination this time. Party’s International Secretary Shammi Ahmed was nominated for Barisal-4 seat in twelfth national election. But his nomination was canceled due to dual citizenship.
Tarana Halim, the party’s executive member, has been nominated again. He was previously MP of the 9th and 10th National Parliaments. The executive member of the party, Sanjida Khanam, was defeated in the 12th parliamentary elections in Dhaka-4 seat. He was the MP of this constituency in the ninth parliament. After that, he was the MP of the reserved seat in the 10th parliament. He was again nominated for the reserved seat.
Parveen Zaman Kalpana, another executive member of the party, has been nominated for the first time. Eight members of Awami League’s central committee have been nominated for the post of MP. All four of them got their first nominations.
State Minister for Women and Child Affairs Fazilatun Nesha Indira, a former member of the cabinet, has been nominated for the post of MP in the reserved seat for the fourth time in a row. Awami League started selling party nomination forms for reserved women’s seats from February 6, which ended on February 8 at 4 pm. According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission (EC), the date for submission of nomination papers for the election of reserved women’s seats in the 12th Parliament is Sunday, February 18 from 9 am to 4 pm. Nomination papers will be selected on February 19 and 20. The appeal was filed on February 22 and the appeal will be disposed of on February 24. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 25th February, allotment of symbols is 27th February and polling will be held on 14th March.
