Oscar Awards: Academy announces changes for the next edition

The proposed modifications will come into effect starting with the next edition of the best of world cinema, in Los Angeles

The Hollywood Academy decided to make changes to the Oscar awards and other distinctions with the aim of adapting to the conditions of the film industry and current needs.

One of the most notable aspects is the emphasis on exhibition in physical cinemasrestricting the eligibility of films competing for the awards to screenings in key cities in USA.

In addition, modifications have been implemented in the category of best film and best soundtrackwith additional requirements for exhibition and individual recognitions for main composers. The feature films of animation will also be able to aspire to the award for best animated film if they meet certain criteria.

Changes in other categories for the Oscars

Regarding the special awards, changes have been made to the presentation of the recognition Irving G. Thalberg Memorialwhich will now be awarded in the form of an Oscar statuette, and two special distinctions have been renamed in the Academy Scientific and Technical Awards.

On the other hand, the lists of Oscar candidates, also called ‘shortlist’, in this category will increase from 15 to 20 titles.
