Opponents call for the governor’s resignation due to the kidnapping of PAS operators

CULIACAN, Sin. (apro).- The political war in Sinaloa began along with local campaigns with a sit-in outside the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) where opposition parties called for the resignation of Governor Rubén Rocha Moya due to the uprising of two political operators of the Sinaloense Party (PAS), on the morning of Saturday, April 13.

Outside the FGE, dozens of opposition party activists, mostly from PAS, as well as workers from the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS) demanded that the investigating authority clarify the facts where a municipal police patrol picked up Luis Alonso. García Corrales, secretary of political operation and Juan Francisco Cerón Beltrán, party member.

At the scene, the former rector of the UAS, designated as the head of the university, Héctor Melesio Cuen Ojeda, demanded the resignation of Governor Rocha.

“The truth is, what great evil, what great perversity, what great hatred of that individual. We demand the immediate resignation of the governor of the state of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, we do not want it.”

Hours later, from his “weekly conference,” Rubén Rocha warned that the events claimed by the opposition could be a self-kidnapping, a fact that further escalated the dispute between political groups.

At the beginning of his administration Rubén Rocha and Melesio Cuen were political allies after Morena and PAS signed an alliance in the last electoral process. Both have been rectors of the UAS, another front that both politicians dispute in Sinaloa.

Rocha appointed Cuen Secretary of Health, and during that period García Corrales was director of the Sinaloa Health Risk Prevention Commission, a position he left after the dismissal of Melesio Cuen from the agency.

After the dismissal, the differences between both politicians escalated to the point that PAS militants and university students “flooded” Morena’s internal process for the selection of counselors, a fact that was subsequently deposed after the Sinaloense Party managed to place at least one militant for each local district.

Subsequently, Cuen signed an alliance with the national opposition parties, and even appears on the PRI’s multi-member lists as a federal deputy.
