On January 17, the Metropolitan Police begins operations

Beginning his government period, the mayor of Valledupar, Ernesto Orozco, convened the first Security Council in order to know figures and actions carried out by the authorities, in addition to announcing the start of operations of the Metropolitan Police as of January 17.

In the meeting held at the Cesar Police Command, Orozco Durán listened to the criminal and operational balance of the year 2023, as well as the projects established to work to improve safety and accident rates in the Municipality.

“At the beginning of the mandate, I convened this security council, I listened to all the information from the authorities and we established commitments to start working, especially in the first 100 days of government and the integrated security plan,” the president explained at the end of the meeting that brought together the National Police and Army, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Public Ministry represented by the Attorney General’s Office, Personería, among other entities.

He also reported that local, departmental and national authorities will be present at the implementation act of the Valledupar Metropolitan Police.

“They presented us with social and investment projects, but the good news is that on January 17 we will inaugurate the Metropolitan Police, that means that we will have more than 140 new agents and that will help combat crime and delinquency,” said Ernesto Orozco.

PRIORITIES TO ENSURE SECURITY

The Mayor of Valledupar warned of his concern about issues such as prison overcrowding at the Carrera 4 Police Station, with 600%, for which he requested collaboration from the Public Ministry and to propose short-term solutions.

In addition, the National Police proposed strengthening the traffic authority in the Municipality of Valledupar, in order to counteract the accident rates and deaths on the roads. The Police announced the increase in the number of quadrants to reinforce the surveillance model and be able to provide better rural and urban coverage in Valledupar. They asked the Valledupar Mayor’s Office to prioritize projects aimed at mobility and coexistence.

“Safety is paramount for us. From my administration we will give positive results to Valledupar,” said Orozco.
