Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited the Olga Rypakova athletics center during a working trip to East Kazakhstan region, Liter.kz reports with reference to Chord.
Olympic champion Olga Rypakova showed the center to the president in person. Since the opening of the school, all winter championships of Kazakhstan in athletics have been held here. Currently, 713 students are training at the center. In 2023, athletes brought 281 medals to the school’s treasury.
Rypakova voiced proposals for the development of athletics in the country. She considers it important to create a Sports Medicine Center in the region, which will allow combining training camps for athletes with treatment and rehabilitation procedures in the favorable natural environment of Altai,” the presidential press service said.
Since 2015, the center has hosted tournaments that have been awarded the World Athletics Continental Tour level. This allows athletes to earn points in the world rankings. Rypakova asked to contribute to raising the status of the tournament to the “silver” level. This requires updating the arena surface and increasing the amount of the prize fund.
Tokayev instructed Deputy Prime Minister Tamara Duisenova and Akim Ermek Kosherbaev to take control of this issue.
