The head of Defense of the military junta of Niger, Moussa Salaou Barmou, ordered this Friday night to put the country’s Armed Forces on high alert. This was reported this Saturday by Al Mayadeen, citing his announcement, broadcast on local public radio.

“Following the receipt of this message, all forces must be placed on high alert,” declared Barmou, explaining that the measure is applied in a context of increasingly concrete threats of aggression against Niger “to avoid surprising public opinion, as well as to guarantee an adequate response.

It is worth remembering that this Thursday the Nigerien military junta announced that it would authorize the Armed Forces of its neighbors Burkina Faso and Mali, which supported the coup d’état in the country, perpetrated at the end of July, to intervene in its territory “in case of aggression.” , referring to a possible military intervention by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The foreign ministers of both countries visited Niamey, the Nigerien capital, where together with the leader of the junta, General Abdourahmane Tchiani, they celebrated the signing of the orders that “authorize the defense and security forces of Burkina Faso and “Mali intervene in Niger territory in case of aggression.”

On Friday, the Nigerien Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced that it had ordered the French ambassador, Sylvain Itte, to leave the country’s territory. According to a statement from the Ministry, the diplomat has 48 hours to leave. For its part, France stated that the “Nigerian coup plotters do not have the authority” to ask its ambassador in Niamey to leave the country. With RT
