Nigeria/Delta State: Palm oil production factory inaugurated

Although it is the African leader in the production of palm oil, Nigeria’s dependence on imports in this area amounts to 25%. As an illustration, the West African giant has released $300 million for the import of palm oil in 2022.

And it is to reverse the trend that Sheriff OBOREVWORI, the Governor of Delta State, inaugurated a few days ago in Akwukwu-Igbo, a palm oil production factory.

And even if the cost of this project, launched in 2017, has not been made public, we know that it is the result of a public-private partnership with Norsworthy Farms & Agro Allied.

The new production plant, according to Ecofin which reports the information, is counting on a processing capacity of 10 tonnes per hour.

Agricultural investor Sheriff OBOREVWORI did not just set up a palm oil production factory. The production unit is installed in a huge palm grove of more than 2000 hectares to ensure a stable supply of raw materials.

With the inauguration of this palm oil production plant, an essential component in the manufacturing of many daily consumer products in Nigeria, we are entitled to think that the country is taking a further step towards self-sufficiency with promise of a more prosperous local economy.
