The Neymar clan wants to support Alves financially. “The family asked us for help. Dani didn’t have the money to defend himself and the deadline to pay for the defense was about to expire. Think about it, I could never refuse to help a friend who is trying to defend himself against an accusation,” Neymar’s father told Brazilian media.
Emphasize that Alves is innocent until proven guilty. “He IS in custody and has not yet been tried. Even today the presumption of innocence applies throughout the world. I can’t turn my back on him. What if the court decides that Dani is innocent? I would rather bear the burden of believing in a friend than turn my back on someone.

Alves played an important role in Neymar’s life after his move to FC Barcelona in 2013. The Barça right-back helped the star find his way in Spain, something Neymar’s family has not forgotten. The two have always had a good bond even with the Brazilian national team.
The bank accounts of Alves, who earned millions as a footballer at Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, among others, have been frozen due to a row with his ex-wife over non-payment of maintenance. The Brazilian would then have turned to his friend Neymar, but also to his family, for help.

Alves will stand trial in Spain on February 5 in a rape case over an incident in late 2022 at the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona. Alves lured a 23-year-old woman into the bathroom and allegedly sexually assaulted her. She reportedly held her captive for 16 minutes. In hospital, the woman had minor injuries to her knees, as well as Alves’ sperm.

Sufficient evidence at the Barcelona court to bring the former footballer to justice. Alves, who claims the sex occurred by mutual consent, has been in custody since January 2023. Applications for bail have been rejected.
