Four decades ago (1984) on this very day (February 16), the 25-minute long film ‘Agami’ was screened at the British Council Auditorium in the capital. It is said that the short and alternative film movement was started in this country through this exhibition.

The film produced by Morshedul Islam, produced by Filmham Film Society, completed 40 years. To commemorate this special day, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Filmom Film Society are jointly organizing a Preeti Sammilani on Friday (February 16) at 5 pm at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s Jatiya Chitrashala Auditorium.

Playwright Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, will be present as one of the guests.

A special screening of ‘Agami’ and the inaugural screening of Nurul Alam Atiq’s documentary on Morshedul Islam produced by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, ‘And There Was Light’ will be held at the end of Preeti Sammilani.

This is what the three organizing organizations, Creative Bangladesh, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Filmom Film Society have said.

The story, screenplay and dialogues of this film based on the independence war of Bangladesh were written by the director Morshedul Islam himself. It starred Piyush Banerjee, Fahmida Parveen Mithu, Ali Zaker, Mujibur Rahman Dilu, Roshan Jamil and others.

The film was released in February 1984 in Chittagong. The film was then screened at the 10th International Film Festival held in New Delhi and Morshedul Islam won the ‘Silver Peacock’ for Best Director. Besides, the film was awarded in the Best Short Film category at the 9th National Film Awards.

The story of ‘Agami’ is like this, the war is over. But the freedom fighters are still neglected. Razakar is still the head of the village. A hero was expelled from the village because he did not want to obey the wishes of the village headman. Such a picture is presented in this film.
