(Nettavisen): New Zealand stores opened with big price cuts on many best-sellers on Monday morning, and Kiwi says the price cuts will last throughout February.
These are some of the cuts:
- Pizza Grandiosa: from 59.90 to 29.90
- Synnøve yellow cheese: from 113.00 to 89.00 per kg
- Two kg wheat flour: From 25.10 to 19.90
- First Price of Minced Meat: From 54.90 to 44.00
– Offers out of the ordinary
There are more than 60 items on the price reduction list.
– This is a slightly out of the ordinary offer. Offers like this don’t happen, so to speak, every Monday, blogger Rune “Gjerrigknarken” Nikolaisen tells Nettavisen.
He keeps an eye on price trends in stores and notices several good buys.
Kiwi has cut the price of these items:

The new announcement price applies from 1/22 to 2/29.
The early price is the lowest price in the last 30 days for 15/1.
– May be empty
Kiwi has cut prices on several bestsellers.
– I think some of the best buys here are Grandiosa, wheat flour and Primo Prezzo ground beef. These are goods that many of us buy, Nikolaisen says.
– The price of the Grandiosa is so low that it will probably be emptied from time to time. But the offer lasts through February, so they’ll stock up again, she says.
Only the Grandiosa pizza also has Rema 1000 the same price cut. But the Rema price is only active this week, while the Kiwi price is valid until February. When Nettavisen visited Rema 1000 in central Trondheim on Monday morning, he didn’t have time to take down the old price sign, but the digital price tag read 29.90.
On Monday morning Extra still sold Grandiosa at 59.90, but at 9.30 Nettavisen received confirmation that Extra had also lowered the price of Grandiosa.
Both Rema 1000 and Extra have several price reductions in their special offers this week. But there is a price reduction on fewer items and only for this week. Kiwi price reductions apply until February.
That’s why Kiwis are taking action
Rune “Gjerrigknarken” Nikolaisen believes there are several reasons why Kiwi is coming up with this price move right now.
– It looks like Kiwi is making a similar move to the one Extra made a few weeks ago. But I think there is a better range of products that Kiwi is cutting prices on, says Nikolaisen.
He believes there may also be another reason why the Kiwi is making its mark with price cuts now.
– It is also probably a response to the fact that the Kiwi missed many price tests. We could read it on Nettavisen at the weekend at the latest. Then it’s clear that Kiwis have to do something, she says.
The Kiwis themselves write on their website that they are lowering prices as a thank you to the customers they received after the price cut made by the chain on February 1 last year. Then the Kiwi let prices stall, while everyone expected prices to rise. Rema 1000 and Extra set the prices, but reduce them again after a few hours.
Some price cuts are surprising
“Gjerrigknarken” believes that the choice of products with price reduction has a specific profile.
– It may seem that they have selected products suitable for families with children, among other things they have reduced liver paste and skimmed milk, he says.
Some price cuts are even more surprising.
– I also notice that the list contains lactose-free and gluten-free products. I think it’s appreciated because they’re almost never offered, he says.
“Gjerrigknarken” is particularly noteworthy for its offering of products with good shelf life.
– I usually buy wheat flour once a year. Then I buy on offer before Christmas. Four packs of four packs of two kilos. Then I have wheat flour for a whole year.
