New podcast: Innovative psychotropic drugs – stepchildren of drug supply? | FOPI – 2024-06-12 05:56:04

Vienna (OTS) 23% of women and 11% of men[i] suffer from depression at least once in their lives. And according to the World Health Organization (WHO), untreated mental disorders account for 13% of the total global burden of disease. These facts alone show the impact that mental illnesses have in many ways – namely directly on the lives of those affected, but also on society as a whole and our health system through the costs of hospitalization and the subsequent effects on work ability and productivity.

Nevertheless, people with mental illnesses in Austria are not cared for to international standards, complain recognized experts such as Prim. Dr. Christa Rados (formerly LKH Villach, long-time senior physician in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapeutic Medicine at the Villach State Hospital and long-time president of the Austrian Society for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics, currently working at the Carinthia Psychosocial Therapy Center in Klagenfurt).

Above all, innovative medications are often not available, she criticizes. Why is that? And what consequences does that have for those affected, their relatives and ultimately for society? Christa Rados discusses this in the current episode of the podcast “Am Mikro|skop” with presenter Martina Rupp. Available to listen to now at:
