Vienna (OTS) – For NEOS asylum and migration spokeswoman Stephanie Krisper, the Nehammer proposal shows the Chancellor’s lack of legal knowledge. “If the Chancellor knew the legal situation, he would know that DNA tests for family reunification are already legally possible and are already being used in practice. His supposed reform proposal is nothing other than pure populism and a deception of the Austrians.”

“The ÖVP is providing further proof that it no longer has the energy for reforms. Instead of populist election campaign noise, a constructive approach is finally needed. We at NEOS are concerned with honest solutions – within Europe, but also within Austria. Because talking alone is not enough. The government should finally take action in the area of ​​asylum and integration. Because Vienna is the only federal state that exceeds its quota year after year. In order to efficiently integrate those seeking and those entitled to protection, these must be distributed across the federal states. To do this, Interior Minister Karner must remind the states – even with fines – of their promise to accept asylum seekers. And Minister Raab must finally expand integration measures in the other federal states. Then a residency requirement becomes possible. We continue to advocate for this – because everyone benefits from better integration: those affected and we as a receiving society, especially in times of staff shortages,” says Krisper.
