Negotiations between the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will be held on September 4 in the Russian city of Sochi, Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov reported this Friday.

«The talks will take place on Monday. They will be held in Sochi,” the spokesperson said in statements to the press. He also detailed that the meeting will take place “at noon.”

Previously, Turkish media reported that Erdogan will visit Russia on September 4 and specified that the key issue on the agenda of the one-day trip will be the resumption of the grain agreement.

At the beginning of August, the two leaders had a telephone conversation. During the call, Putin outlined Moscow’s “principled position” regarding the suspension of the pact, taking into account that exports of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to global markets were not unblocked.

For his part, Erdogan stated that Ankara will continue to make efforts for the pact to be resumed, because the suspension “for a long period of time does not benefit anyone.” The Turkish president defended that “measures should not be taken to increase tension” in the context of the conflict in Ukraine, underlining that the Black Sea Initiative is a “bridge of peace.” With RT
