MT-LB – Powerful legendary armored vehicle of the Soviet era

MT-LB is a multi-purpose tracked armored vehicle originating from the Soviet era, put into service in the Soviet Red Army since the late 1960s.

Initially this vehicle was developed to replace the AT-P tractor, but later the MT-LB became a multi-purpose armored vehicle, with great exploitation potential for different weapon combinations. The vehicle is designed to perform many tasks such as troop transport, command and control. Equipped with a YaMZ 238 V-8 diesel engine with 240 horsepower, MT-LB can reach a maximum speed of up to 62km/h on the road, 30km/h on rugged terrain and an operating range of 500km. The vehicle can cross 60% slopes, ditches and ditches up to 2.41m wide and is capable of wading.

In terms of technical specifications, MT-LB is 6.45m long, 2.86m wide, 1.86m high, weighs approximately 11.9 tons and has a payload of 2.5 tons. The vehicle can also tow trailers or weapons up to 6.5 tons and carry equipment weighing up to 2 tons. In addition to the 2-person crew, this vehicle can carry up to 11 soldiers.

The MT-LB chassis can be used for self-propelled air defense and anti-tank systems, command information vehicles, self-propelled guns and airborne vehicles. The vehicle can also be equipped with many different types of weapons to increase firepower, meeting the needs of each specific mission. This vehicle can mount a 7.62mm PKT machine gun that rotates 360 degrees on the right side above the troop compartment.

The body of the MT-LB is made of fully welded steel with a control compartment at the front, a completely different front engine and a troop compartment at the rear. The vehicle’s armor provides protection for the crew and soldiers against small arms fire and artillery shell fragments. The vehicle is also equipped with an NBC protection system and night vision device.

MT-LB armored vehicles are currently very commonly used by Russia, Ukraine as well as the armies of Eastern European countries.
