Election Commissioner (EC) Md. Alamgir said, a Member of Parliament (MP) must go to his constituency. But cannot participate in the election campaign of any candidate.

He said that local members of parliament can go to the center and cast their votes on election day. But you cannot go to the center with any candidate.

EC Alamgir said these things in an exchange meeting with the candidates in the three upazila parishad elections of Tangail district in the first phase of the sixth upazila parishad election on Wednesday (April 24) afternoon.

EC Alamgir said that if the law and order situation deteriorates in the polling center or there is no fair election environment, then the presiding officer who is there can stop the election. If he can’t stop for any reason or if he has an argument with someone not to stop, then our Returning and Assistant Returning Officers will be able to stop the election. And if this happens, the election cannot be conducted properly in any center of the upazila election, then the election commission can stop the entire election.

He said, if a candidate or his supporter attacks another candidate or supporter, sets fire or burns businesses-houses; Punishment will be more severe for what are called criminal offences. In this case the electoral code of conduct is not enough, there are more electoral laws. Our officers and police can also prosecute criminal offenses under that Act. We will not need permission.

EC Alamgir said that all the law and order forces will be present in this election, not only the army, but the army is kept only for national elections. National elections are held simultaneously across the country. In that case, the law enforcement personnel are less, so the army is deployed.

He said that the upazila elections will be held in several stages. Therefore, we have approved more number of law enforcement officers in each center in this election than in the National Assembly elections.

Deputy Commissioner Kaycharul Islam presided over the exchange meeting organized in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner of Tangail.

Tangail Superintendent of Police Sarkar Mohammad Kaiser, district senior election officer Matiur Rahman along with Dhanbari, Madhupur and Gopalpur upazila chairman, vice chairman and reserved women vice chairman candidates of Tangail were present.
