Cancer patients of the Salvadoran Social Security Institute (ISSS) have benefited from more than 61,900 treatments of different types.

According to the director of the ISSS, Mónica Ayala, in one year 11,569 outpatient chemotherapies, 40,812 radiotherapies have been provided; 7,608 nuclear medicine services; and 1,917 oncological surgeries.

“Our specialized oncological treatments benefit a large number of our members, and each story of struggle drives us to continue striving every day to improve the quality of life of Salvadorans,” Ayala emphasized.

The ISSS detailed that each of the procedures represents an important step in the fight against cancer for patients.

“We will continue working to offer the necessary treatment and support to improve their quality of life,” the institute stressed.

Recently, as part of the actions to guarantee the care of cancer patients, director Mónica Ayala supervised the progress of the improvement and equipment work at the Oncology Hospital.

This is a national reference center that treats an average of 500 to 600 cancer patients daily.

One of the equipment that is being installed in this hospital is a tomograph for the nuclear medicine service that will also be used for the Medical Surgical hospital. It is a precise diagnostic equipment to identify, stage and monitor cancer patients.

Likewise, the start-up of the Monoenergetic Linear Accelerator for the radiotherapy service is being prepared. A device with greater technological advancement, more precise doses, 360-degree rotation and greater comfort for the patient.

Likewise, it has been equipped with a Magnetic Resonance, the first piece of equipment in the Radiology and Imaging service of the Specialty Clinic, for the early and accurate diagnosis of different pathologies.
