All licenses of mobile operators are coming under one license. Operators no longer need to obtain separate licenses. 2-G, 3-G, 4-G, 5-G or later technologies do not require a separate license. One license includes all licenses. According to the new guidelines published in this regard, mobile operators will be able to provide Wi-Fi services to customers with SIM-based routers under this license. And Internet Service Providers (ISPs) objected to it.

Operators say that they will gradually start providing this service once they get the new license. On the other hand, the ISP Association says, if this happens, domestic entrepreneurs will be at risk. Although they have been repeatedly told by the government and regulatory agencies, domestic entrepreneurs will be protected.

It is known that mobile operators can provide Wi-Fi services with SIM-based routers. BTRC will hand over new licenses to operators soon.

When asked about this, Sheikh Riaz Ahmed, Commissioner of Spectrum Management Department of Telecommunication Regulatory Commission BTRC, told Bangla Tribune, “We have seen SIM-based Wi-Fi routers made by domestic companies. The company has complied with all the issues. Hopefully they won’t have any problem getting approved. He said, with the arrival of SIM based routers, wireless Wi-Fi services will be available. Users can keep the router and work wherever they are at home, office. You will have a good experience.

In response to a question, Sheikh Riaz Ahmed said, there will be no conflict between Fixed Broadband Wi-Fi (ISP) and Fixed Wireless Broadband (Mobile Internet). Two types of services. Two types of institutions will provide it. Mobile phone operators could not provide this service earlier. Unique licenses (all licenses under one license) have this feature. As a result mobile operators can provide this service.

There are several other brands of SIM based routers in the country including Tiplink. Domestic company Walton has sought approval from BTRC to manufacture SIM-based routers. If approved, the company will go into production.

When asked about this, Walton Digitech Industries Limited’s Additional Managing Director Liaquat Ali Bhuiya told Bangla Tribune, “As a manufacturer, we applied to BTRC to manufacture SIM-based Wi-Fi routers. In that context, there was a factory visit of BTRC on Wednesday (February 28). We have complied with the conditions of BTRC. Hope to get approval to manufacture SIM based Wi-Fi router. This will be a domestic SIM based Wi-Fi router.

According to related sources, BTRC will hand over the unique license to the mobile operators on March 7. This license will be given for 15 years. By taking this one license the operators need not take any separate license (separate license for 2-G, 3-G, 4-G). If you get one license, that license will cover everything. Operators do not have to take any separate license for 5G or other technology services that will come after that. The single license or unified license guidelines mention provision of FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) services for mobile operators. As a result, mobile operators can also provide this service.

In this regard, mobile phone operator Robi’s Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer Shahed Alam said, “We have received a new license.” After getting the license, we will gradually launch this service (Fixed Wireless Broadband). This service FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) service is 5-G or 4-G, LTE wireless technology.

When asked whether this new service is in conflict with the broadband services of ISPs (Internet Service Providers), the president of ISPAB, the association of internet service providers of the country, Emdadul Haque said, “We have objections in this place.” We have been repeatedly told that in granting a unique license, protection will be given to domestic entrepreneurs (ISP traders). If mobile operators offer Wi-Fi services through SIM-based routers, how are domestic entrepreneurs protected? He said that soon they will sit with the Ministry of Telecommunication and BTRC on behalf of the organization. If the issue is not addressed, domestic entrepreneurs will be at risk.
