JAKARTA – The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) held a chip in activity with the theme “Check Simple Facts” on Thursday (26/4/2024) at SMAN 33 West Jakarta and was attended by 600 students. This activity was held in order to increase the digital literacy level of 50 million Indonesians by 2024 towards a #MakinCakapDigital Indonesia.

Based on the 2022 Indonesian Community Digital Literacy Index Survey conducted by the Ministry of Communication and Information and the Katadata Insight Center in 2021, it is stated that Indonesia is still in the “medium” category with a figure of 3.49 out of 5.00. Digital literacy webinar activities in the educational environment are one of the Ministry of Communication and Information’s efforts to accelerate digital transformation in the education sector towards a #MakinCakapDigital Indonesia.

The chip in activity began with remarks from the Directorate General of Technology, Ministry of Communication and Information, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, who conveyed the importance of preparing Indonesian digital talent to be able to take advantage of developments in digital technology and have the ability to overcome the risks that arise with it. Semuel conveyed the four main pillars of digital literacy, namely Digital Skills, Digital Culture, Digital Ethics and Digital Security.

The second speech and opening of the activity was by the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi who online conveyed the economic benefits of digital literacy activities, such as increasing workforce competency and community participation in digital economy-based activities. The Minister of Communication and Information also invited all levels of society to actively participate in various digital literacy activities, to make Indonesia connected and more advanced.

The chip activity aims to provide education about digital literacy in a way that is easy for students to accept. The Nobar session began with the screening of an animated video entitled “4 Steps for Digital Literacy”. The four steps in question are interaction, participation, collaboration and self-control so that students #MakinCakapDigital.

Explanations about digital literacy were then delivered by three resource persons. The first presentation was delivered by Trisno Sakti Herwanto as the Board & Head of the Public Administration Study Laboratory, FISIP Unpar, who discussed digital ethics.

Trisno explained, when using the internet, there are etiquette that we must apply. Internet etiquette is also often called netiquette or internet etiquette. In short, etiquette is a person’s behavior in his relationships with the people around him. Likewise, in the digital world, internet users still have to prioritize manners, just like in the real world.

The current generation of students can be said to be digital natives, because they have been accustomed to the digital world since birth. Meanwhile, the previous generation or their parents’ generation, including digital immigrants or immigrant immigrants, are still continuing to adapt to the presence and development of the digital world.

Even though these digital natives are more proficient in digital skills than previous generations, they still need to receive guidance on how to surf the internet properly, especially maintaining internet etiquette.

“We have to understand what information we share and we share that information must be true and based on the facts, so that we don’t harm other people because of hoaxes. Don’t just follow, because it doesn’t necessarily mean that he will spread good news. Does anyone like to share and use hashtags to make it viral? “Usually people don’t really believe this, but they actually help make it viral,” added Trisno.
