PUEBLA, Pue. (process.com.mx) .- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured here that during his six-year term, Mexico left behind a time of surrender and submission to the United States, to give way to relations of equality.

By participating in the last commemorative parade of the May 5 battle that corresponds to his period of government, the president assured that during his administration he managed to establish good economic and commercial relations with the neighboring country to the north.

After giving a historical account of what the historic feat represented, the president stated that another intention of interventionism in Mexico was generated with the proposal to open American universities to “ambitious young Mexicans” so that they would be the ones who wanted to impose the model. and leadership of the neighboring country and that this became another “manifest destiny” for the country.

He added that this subordination or dependence of Mexico on the United States was applied from 1983 to the end of 2018, because when his government arrived that changed.

“We have had good economic and commercial relations with the United States, but treating each other with respect and mutually taking advantage of the neighborhood for the benefit of our people. Fortunately, this has been understood by President Biden, who always says that our relationship must be based on equality and we appreciate that,” he said.

He added that Mexico cannot refuse economic integration, especially when 40 million Mexicans live and work in the neighboring country.

“Yes to economic integration, yes to cooperation, yes to a relationship of respect, yes to a policy of good neighborliness, yes to friendship between our peoples, but without ever forgetting that Mexico is a free, independent and sovereign nation that does not We are, nor do we ever want to be, a colony or protectorate of any foreign government, be it Russia, China, France or the United States,” he stated.

He said that the best tribute that can be paid 162 years after the Battle of May 5162 is that Mexicans have recovered sovereignty.

“It is to invoke their memory to tell them that the Mexicans of this generation have recovered sovereignty, national dignity and the freedom to decide the course of Mexico. Without interference or foreign pressure, we have established constructive, peaceful, respectful and equal relations with the people of the world. “We have left behind a time of surrender and submission,” he added.

Governor’s Praise

In his participation, Governor Salomón Céspedes Peregrina went out of his way to praise the president, whom he called the “most emblematic social fighter” in the country’s modern history.

“Here is a man who has been making his country for many decades, first with conscience, and in the last six years with actions and results,” said the Puebla president, without remembering that in the 2018 elections, he participated on the side of the candidate of the PAN, Ricardo Anaya.

“In a few months, all of Mexico will miss you, I tell you as Sergio Salomón, more than as governor, you have been a great president, above all a loving example that I am proud to be able to talk to my grandchildren one day that I had to hug you.” work with you and give you good accounts for Puebla,” he expressed.

He said that this pride is something “very similar” to what those who participated in the Battle of May 5, together with Zaragoza, must have felt and delivered good accounts to President Benito Juárez.
