The most severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, usually begin at a young age, before the age of 30.

Publika.az reports, these words were said by medical expert, psychiatrist Artyom Gilev while commenting on the study of Australian scientists.

Experts have determined that the most problems related to mental health are observed at the age of 15-24 and 25-34. At the same time, scientists noted that anxiety-depressive disorders are registered less often in 65-year-old people. They noticed that mental disorders are more common in older people.

“There are practically no people who are diagnosed with schizophrenia for the first time over the age of 40. Therefore, the peak of detection of the most serious mental illnesses is actually the age of 16-17 or 25-30. This can be explained by genetics and the features of the mechanism of development of such diseases.” , – the expert emphasized in an interview with “kp.ru”.

The doctor added that depression and anxiety disorders are not related to age. The current situation in the country and the world plays a big role here. The expert noted that if a person faces constant stress throughout his life, then the number of such violations increases.

“The second important factor is genetics. Certain “disorders” in genes contribute to the development of depression and anxiety disorders. But again, these diseases begin after external conditions, social upheavals, crises, as well as epidemics,” said the psychiatrist.

In addition, he noted that the resistance to nervous diseases is not related to age, everything is explained by how many concussions a person has experienced. The longer he experiences them, the worse the prognosis. Gilev stressed that it is impossible to get used to tension, each new pressure shakes the psyche and all this accumulates inside.

The doctor believes that excessive enthusiasm for smartphones and virtual communication cannot harm the psyche of young people. According to him, it is even useful for some. In addition, the psychiatrist urged people not to dramatize the situation and noted that spending free time on social media can harm the psyche.
