Meghan Markle believes social media is “toxic” and has caused us to forget “our humanity”. The Duchess of Sussex said this during a panel she attended at the South by Southwest (SXSW) film festival in Texas. Meghan discussed the representation of women in the media and entertainment with other famous women.
According to Meghan, social media is “toxic” in many ways. The wife of British Prince Harry shared that she tries to keep her distance from all the negative things written online. “The most annoying messages came when I was pregnant with Archie and Lilibet,” Meghan said. She was surprised at how “catty and cruel” people could be.
“But we also created certain habits,” Meghan continued. “What I really don’t understand is why women express hatred towards other women. I really don’t understand that,” said Meghan. “If you, as a woman, read something bad about another woman, why do you share it with your friends? We have forgotten our humanity.”
