The mayor of Maipú, Tomás Vodanovic (RD), used his social networks to denounce an act of cruelty perpetrated against his two beloved dogs Negrita and Drako. Through his Instagram account, the communal chief and Frente Amplio militant expressed his dismay at the tragic event that claimed the lives of his faithful canine companions.

“This is how I will remember and love them forever, accompanying the readings in the pool, running around the patio, waking up every morning, giving my old man gifts and never letting him water in peace, and filling everyone who came in with company and love. that house. As the old man told us, they were our dog brothers, and for him, some more children,” the Maipucino mayor shared in an emotional message, along with photographs of the dogs.

The indignation and pain were evident in the words of Mayor Vodanovic, who expressed his inability to understand the evil that leads someone to harm beings as noble and innocent as their pets. “It is difficult for me to understand the evil that can lead a person to poison and kill such noble and innocent animals that did no harm to anyone. But I try not to let it be anger that takes over this moment“he added.

With deep love and gratitude, the mayor said goodbye to his dogs Negrita and Drako, expressing his hope that they will find comfort and joy in dog heaven, where they will continue to accompany and love their “little old man.” “We will always love you Negrita and Drako with our lives. You don’t know how happy I was every time I could be with you at Elqui. I just hope you can continue accompanying and loving my old man from dog heaven. I am sure he will do it forever,” he concluded.

The event has raised public attention to the need to protect animals from acts of abuse. In Chile, the penalties for the crime of animal abuse range from 61 days to 3 years of deprivation of liberty, accompanied by fines that range between 2 and 30 UTM (Monthly Tax Units). This means that, if any type of abuse is proven, the perpetrator could face a fine of up to 1.9 million pesos. In addition, the Cholito Law establishes sanctions of absolute perpetual inability to own any type of animal, as a measure to protect pets and punish those who threaten their well-being and life.
