Mayara highlights the importance of reforming the Family Code and promises to produce an “ethics draft” soon

In a speech he delivered on the occasion of the opening of the spring session of the current legislative year in the second chamber of Parliament, Mayara said that the period between the two sessions was characterized by “the special attention it received within the public debate and workshops for creating political and public life.”

Mayara added that the Moroccan Parliament “engaged seriously in these reform workshops, guided in this regard by the sound directives that came in the text of the Royal Message addressed to it on the occasion of the celebration of the sixtieth anniversary of its founding last January.”

The Chairman of the Council of Councilors added that, as a culmination of the collective efforts that have been made, “I announce before you that we have made important strides on the path to consecrating the sublime royal will in this regard, and we will, God Almighty willing, soon be on a date with presenting a draft draft of the Code of Ethics to your attention,” after completing “ Scrutinizing some detailed matters within the framework of ongoing consultations with the heads of teams and groups in the Council, and taking into account due coordination with the esteemed House of Representatives.”

Mubara considered that the opening of the spring session comes in a national context characterized by “continuous dynamism, interspersed with productive public debate on issues of social, economic and political dimensions that are related to the requirements of the current stage and future challenges.”

He stressed that the issue of amending the Family Code remains one of the most prominent issues at hand and has received “extensive and fruitful consultations with various actors, both official and unofficial, in accordance with the royal directives calling for implementing a participatory approach in dealing with this reform workshop.”

The spokesman recorded that “what gives absolute reassurance is that these decisive community workshops came at the initiative of King Mohammed VI, the Commander of the Faithful, the protector of the faith and religion and the guarantor of the freedom to practice religious affairs,” stressing that “on this solid basis, we are absolutely certain that this discussion will… Despite the tension and sharp interaction that accompanied it at times, it will inevitably lead to the adoption of a comprehensive and effective reform of the Family Code.”

Mayara continued, “This reform will strengthen the vital role of the family in building a society in which everyone enjoys freedom, dignity, equality, and equal opportunities, and preserves the cohesion of the Moroccan family, which has always formed the nucleus of a solid Moroccan society, which throughout history has maintained its uniqueness and distinction by relying on a system of values ​​that unites… “Between preserving ancient traditions and openness to the modern data,” he said.

The President of the Council of Councilors pointed out that Morocco has made important gains and achievements in the last two decades in the field of constitutional recognition of equality and the pursuit of parity between men and women, and added: “However, the need still exists to initiate new reforms that are based on the best accumulations of the reality of our society and our legitimate aspirations for more Progress and prosperity.”

He also considered that the fundamental changes that will affect the Family Code also require “focusing on reforming and addressing all legislation, policies, and practices that are still plagued by some shortcomings and an inability to keep pace with the principles and deep meanings of the advanced 2011 Constitution in terms of advancing the status of Moroccan women,” including reviewing various “relevant laws.” “Especially the criminal law, the nationality law, and the law on fostering neglected children, and completing the institutional building by working to bring into existence the body charged with parity and combating all forms of discrimination, and the Advisory Council for Family and Childhood.”

Mayara expressed the readiness of the Council of Advisors with all its political, union, economic, professional and territorial components to do “whatever is necessary and take initiatives to activate its legislative, supervisory and evaluative proposal power in order to engage practically and productively in the national effort aimed at rehabilitating and modernizing the state’s societal, economic and political structures, in a way that enables our country to Achieving its ambitious goals, consolidating its many gains, and ensuring its readiness to meet the challenges of the future.”
