Mentioning that there is some instability in the market, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said that we are making arrangements so that the market remains stable, so that people do not suffer during fasting.
He said this in response to a supplementary question by Mahfuzur Rahman at the National Parliament session on Sunday (February 25). Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session.
He said, the month of Ramadan is ahead, naturally Muslims all over the world will celebrate this holy month of Ramadan Mubarak. There is some volatility in our market. It is due to various reasons including global. We import sugar. We have 17 sugar mills, it takes years to produce the raw material we need. Today it has become mechanical. Farmers must look after their own interests. Many people do not want to produce long-term crops. There are many places in sugar mills. If we don’t take multi-pronged steps then the sugar mills will be burdened. That is why we have taken many plans including modernization of other crops such as fruits processing on the instructions of the Prime Minister. We have already signed some contracts. Foreign investors and domestic entrepreneurs have also expressed interest there.
The minister said that those who manufacture privately bring raw materials from abroad. We do not survive in the market with them. Because our prices fall more. That’s why we’re now going to make the matches more realistic in a new way. I believe there will be no shortage of sugar now.
He said, we supply sufficient quantity of sugar from our sugar corporation to the military, police and especially the government forces where we have sugar. For the foreign market, we have a little short (low) and there are private people who import them with TCB. However, the market is very stable. In the world market situation, the price increase has increased. Even though I have to pay sub city in the price of the Ministry of Industry, I have kept 45 rupees. We are not paying the government fixed price of Rs 65.
