Man City came to the top and fell behind Liverpool again – 2024-02-11 03:39:14

Arling Haaland was out for almost two months with a broken foot. The Norwegian striker scored his first goal after returning from injury on Saturday. He hit the net twice to beat relegation-threatened Everton 2-0. By doing so, Man City rose to the top. But Liverpool won and snatched the number one seat.

Everton’s solid defense did not allow Man City to take any shots in the first half. The Citizens last failed to get a shot on target in the first half in the league at home against Crystal Palace in August 2022. Six goals were scored in the second half, as the Manchester club won 4–2.

This time also the same incident happened. Man City had 72.5 per cent possession and managed just three shots on target, all in the second half. And Holland won the team back to form at the right time. The Norwegian striker opened the scoring with City’s first shot from a corner kick in the 71st minute.

Five minutes from time, Haaland latched on to Kevin De Bruyne’s pass from midfield past Jared Branthwaite to beat keeper Jordan Pickford.

Haaland became the league’s top scorer with his 15th and 16th goals of the season in the second half. At the same time, the hat-trick champions climbed to number one in the table with 52 points in 23 matches. But Liverpool snatched the top spot from them after an hour. The Allreds are back at number one after beating Burnley 3-1. Liverpool’s 54 points in 24 matches.

In the 31st minute, Diogo Jota rattled the net with a header from a corner. Dara O’Shea equalized for Burnley just before the break, but Liverpool produced a superb second-half performance. In the 52nd minute, Harvey Elliott headed the ball into the net. Nunez also headed in to secure an easy win in the 79th minute.
