Maarten Paes Can Fail Executing a Penalty for a Former Juventus Player

TORONTO – Goalkeeper candidate Indonesian National team, Maarten Paes, unable to bring his team, FC Dallas, to defeat Toronto FC in the 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS). Competing at the BMO Field Stadium, Sunday (5/5/2024) morning WIB, Paes and his colleagues lost 1-3.

This match was Paes’ 10th match with FC Dallas in MLS 2024. Unfortunately, the prospective Indonesian national team goalkeeper failed to keep a clean sheet because his goal conceded three goals.

Toronto, who played in front of the public, appeared quite confident. They launched attack after attack, but Paes and his colleagues could still anticipate it.

Meanwhile, FC Dallas is still having difficulty finding its rhythm. Practically, the team nicknamed the Red Stripes only relies on counterattacks. Even though Toronto dominated the match, in fact they still couldn’t break through Paes’ goal until entering the 30th minute.

Then in the 41st minute, Toronto managed to break through Paes’ goal. However, the referee disallowed the goal after reviewing it via VAR. The match became fierce again after that.

In the 45+3 minute, Paes actually succeeded in saving former Juventus player Federico Bernardeschi’s penalty kick. But Bernardeschi was able to take advantage of the thrown ball so that Toronto took a 1-0 lead over FC Dallas. This score also closed the first match.

After halftime, FC Dallas tried to score an equalizer. However, Nico Estevez’s polished team still had difficulty penetrating Toronto’s defense.

Unfortunately, FC Dallas lost again in the 52nd minute. Paes’ goal was again broken through by Bernardeschi who took advantage of a pass from Jonathan Osorio.

FC Dallas is still trying to break down Toronto’s goal. Meanwhile, the home side also often spread threats to increase their goal tally. But until the match entered the 75th minute, no additional goals had been scored.

Very unfortunately, Paes’ goal was conceded again in the 82nd minute through a goal scored by Matthew Longstaff. FC Dallas was finally able to reduce the deficit through Sam Junqua’s goal in the 87th minute. In the end, Paes and colleagues had to suffer a 1-3 defeat to Toronto.
