Lyricist Mohammad Rafiquzzaman is getting freedom award – 2024-03-16 21:00:01

Renowned lyricist Mohammad Rafiquzzaman has been honored with the Freedom Award this year. Today (March 15) this information has been informed in the press release of the Cabinet Department.

Rafiquzzaman occupies a prominent place as a lyricist in the music world of the country. He gained popularity by writing all kinds of original songs including film, modern, patriotic. But Mohammad Rafiquzzaman is most appreciated for writing film songs.

Numerous songs penned by Guni this lyricist have enriched the arena of domestic film music. Many artists have sung his songs not only in Bangladesh but also in India. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Bengali music, the government awarded the distinguished lyricist with the Freedom Award.

Renowned lyricist Mohammad Rafiquzzaman was born on February 11, 1943 at Mamabari in Lakshmipur of Jhenaidah district. Matriculation (SSC) from Jessore Zilla School, HSC from Govt. Michael Madusudan College, Bachelor in Bengali Literature from Rajshahi University and Post Graduate in the same subject from Dhaka University.

Mohammad Rafiquzzaman joined Bangladesh Betar in 1968. He worked here till 1993. In 2004, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of Channel S in London. In 2007, he started working as a program host on Baisakhi Television.

Mohammad Rafiquzzaman started writing songs as a regular lyricist on radio in Bangladesh from 1965. The number of songs published by him is more than two thousand.

Since 1973, Mohammad Rafiquzzaman has been regularly writing songs for films. He has composed songs for hundreds of films. Apart from songs, Mohammad Rafiquzzaman has also composed numerous plays for radio, stage and television.

Mohammad Rafiquzzaman has been awarded the National Film Award for Best Lyricist multiple times. As a result, he has announced that he will no longer be awarded film awards for music. He also said that this award should be given to new lyricists instead.
