By stating that individual Afore accounts are “untouchable”, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured that his pension reform does not harm workers, but on the contrary is to improve the situation of those who are going to retire and receive a larger amount.

In the National Palace, the federal president pointed out that his government is not the same as past six-year administrations, which he described as “looters from before.”

“Individual Afores accounts are untouchable, We have the responsibility of defending workers’ pensions. We are not the same as the looters of before. This reform is not to harm workers, it is to improve the situation of those who are going to retire, so that they receive more.

“But all this helps, all this manipulation, because they are very clumsy, they do not realize that by wanting to spread lies they allow us to remember what Zedillo did, and what those of the conservative bloc who reformed the Constitution did to take away a considerable amount of pensions.”

In this sense, President López Obrador recalled that before this reform, the worker retired with his last salary.
