Life sentence for youth in Chandpur businessman’s murder – 2024-04-24 13:25:33

The court sentenced a young man named Rajeev alias Raju Chandra Sheel (30) to life imprisonment in the case of murder of a businessman in Chandpur. At the same time, he was sentenced to another year of rigorous imprisonment without paying a fine of 50,000 taka.

Senior district and session judge on Sunday (April 21) at noon. Mohsinul Haque gave this verdict.

Convicted Raju is the son of Subhash Chandra Sheel of Fatehabad village in Comilla’s Devidwar police station. At the time of the incident, he was working at Tiptop Hair Cart Salon in Bipanibagh Bazar in Chandpur.

Murder victim Narayan Chandra Ghosh is a resident of Ghosh Para in the city. He used to earn his living by selling curds and sweets in various shops including Bipani Bagh in the city.

According to the details of the case, on September 15, 2021, around 10:30 PM, Narayan Chandra Ghosh went to the salon of accused Raju. Because Narayan Chandra Ghosh used to lend money on interest. Raju took a loan of 2000 taka from him for daily interest of 20 taka. Even though he paid the interest regularly, he could not do it on the day of the incident. Raju asks Narayan Chandra Ghosh to leave. Later came again around 12 midnight and asked to cut and shave his hair. Just then Raju gets angry and cuts his throat with a sharp hoof while shaving. Later, his body was left in a sack near Sharif Steel in Bipni Bagh Bazar.

The next day on September 16 at 7 am, the relatives found the body of Narayan Chandra Ghosh through the locals. The police came and recovered the body from the spot and completed the legal process.

Rajiv Ghosh, son of Narayan Chandra Ghosh, filed a murder case against Rajiv alias Raju Chandra Sheel at Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station on September 17 in this incident. After the case, the police arrested the accused Raju on September 21 and handed him over to the court.

The case was investigated by the then Sub-Inspector (SI) Rashedul Islam of Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station. After the investigation, he filed the charge sheet in the court on March 14, 2022.

Public Prosecutor (PP) Ranjit Roy Chowdhury, the lawyer for the state, said that 21 people had testified during the trial of the case for more than two years. The verdict was given after the accused admitted his guilt, reviewed the evidence and the documents of the case.

The accused converted to Islam while in prison. He told the lawyer himself that his current name is Abdur Rahman.
