Left federal women refuse to discriminate

The Preparatory Committee of the Women’s Organizational Conference of the Democratic Left Federation affirmed that “the battle for a fair family code does not fall within technical or partial reforms; rather, it comes at the heart of the battle of values ​​and knowledge for a democratic society that is open and based on the foundations of actual equality and human dignity.”

The committee held, as part of a communication reached by Hespress, the Moroccan state responsibility for “delayed reform of the family code and the consequent violations against women and violating constitutional obligations”, expressing its rejection of all “compromise or arms approaches that devote the reality of discrimination in the name of traditions or religious interpretations”, calling at the same time to conduct a “informed reading that takes into account the purposes of justice and public interest.”

It also called for “the suitability of the Family Code with the international agreements approved by Morocco, in line with the spirit of the constitutional document that acknowledges the Highness of international covenants on national legislation, stressing“ the importance of recognizing the progressive women’s movement as a major actor and partner in the battle of reform with the need to involve them in formulating related public policies. ”

The same communication considered that “the struggle for the law of Adel’s family is part of a broader battle for a modern, civil, democratic society and free of all forms of discrimination and violence”, also calling for “the unification of efforts between political, civil and legal forces, to build a wide societal front that imposes change and achieves full gender equality.”

It is worth noting that the Democratic Left Federation proposed, in the memo that it submitted to the Royal Committee in charge of reviewing the Family Code, the constitution of family legislation in Morocco to protect it from any amendment, and prevent the marriage of the minor while moving the judicial follow -up procedure against every adult person who proves his involvement in this type of marriage, while determining his legal age in 18 years for both sexes.

The same political body also proposed criminalizing polygamy, giving Moroccan Jews the right to choose to conclude their contracts, making the guardianship over the children in the hands of the spouses together, and stipulating that the nursery does not fall on the mother in the event of her marriage, as well as excluding the marital housing house from the money covered by division in the inheritance in the event of the death of one of the spouses, while preserving the two consensual divorce and the judge’s intervention in the divorce.
