MÉRIDA, Mexico -. A total of 15,000 passengers daily are affected due to the public transportation crisis in Las Tunas.

Of the 4,000 liters per day that the province needs to start the eleven bus routes in the city and the inter-municipal ones, only 30% has been received since the second half of March, he told the local Newspaper 26 Reynaldo Reyes Silva, Transportation Delegate.

The official acknowledged that teaching and work routines suffer in Las Tunas since 75% of the territory’s inhabitants depend on public transportation.

For his part, he assured that rail transportation and the five routes through national buses operate with greater stability.

“Added to this is the presence of inspectors who help when there are no urban services; These days they are more important because, also due to the fuel situation, we had some leased ones that supported the urban one and they are no longer there, they consume around 700 liters and it is very complex,” he said.

Likewise, he stated that they have implemented a service by which the 65 cocotaxis that work in the city leave in the mornings through the three fundamental piqueras, which are located in the Casa Insólita, El Tanque de Buena Vista and the Guevara hospital.

The official apologized to the population and assured that they are working to find solutions.

The transportation crisis amid the fuel shortage extends throughout the Island.

Last month it was learned that of the 561 vehicles that the Cuban Government has for transportation in Havana, more than half are paralyzed and do not circulate.
