The St. Pölten-Krems region applied to become European Capital of Culture in 2024 – and ultimately didn’t become one. Instead, it was the Salzkammergut, where an acclaimed opening took place in the city of Gmunden these days.
The evening before there was an opening ceremony in Vorchdorf, the “Gateway to the Salzkammergut”. As luck would have it – or the program designers – it was so that this event in the cultural and event location “Kitzmantelfabrik” was musically designed by probably the most successful Krems band of all time, but certainly by Austria’s top tribute band.
The Doors Experience, whose charismatic frontman Jason Boiler from Egelsee unfortunately died in November 2023 at the age of 58, fulfilled his wish that the band should continue. Drummer Christoph Zauchinger, guitarist René Galik and keyboardist Klaus Bergmaier were able to convince the Ybbs singer Martin Freudenschuss to take over the vocals at this concert (and on December 30th in front of a packed Innsbruck greenhouse). The Upper Austrian fans were thrilled by the two-hour show, in which no Doors hit was left out. Right now The Doors are on everyone’s lips again, as their frontman, who died in 1971, would have celebrated his 80th birthday these days.
For this occasion, Martin Freudenschuss has put together an unplugged tribute to Jim Morrison, which is accompanied only by Klaus Bergmaier on the piano in an intimate setting and is called “Jim Morrison at 80”.

This will take place, among other things, on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 6 p.m. in the “espresso & music” performed in Gmünd.
