Kostas Arvanitis / Legal recognition of the term “femicide” now

“How can we feel safe when the Mitsotakis government plays our lives at the dice of irresponsible communication management?”

“How are you women to feel protected when they resort to the security forces and the untrained and unskilled police officers they don’t know how to face?”wonders the MEP of SYRIZA -PS Kostas Arvanitisregarding the new horrific femicide that happened yesterday Monday (1/4) a few meters away from the Police Station of Aghii Anargyro with a 28-year-old victim, brutally murdered by her 39-year-old ex-partner.

“How can we talk about equality and state of justice when in our country are murdered daily women with heavy responsibilities of her own unrepentant government?” underlines.

“No other woman dead, no other woman unprotected.

It’s an issue our collective dignity.

It’s an issue of life and death“, emphasizes, among others, Kostas Arvanitis.

The announcement is detailed

Last night, 28-year-old Kyriaki Griva was shot outside a police station in the center of Athens, while she was on the phone with Immediate Action. According to authoritative reports, the only support and protection offered to her by EL.AS. was to urge her to file a lawsuit, even though the victim herself reported that in the past in a similar case this particular option had proved dead-end.

Juvenile delinquency has skyrocketed, domestic violence plagues the country, and femicide has reached epidemic proportions.

The women and men of the security authorities are not trained to deal effectively with a case of gender-based violence and lack the necessary professional characteristics.

The Mitsotakis government insists on pretending that it is dealing with crime with a thoughtless and sterile tightening of penalties, without any staff planning, without any implementation of prevention policies, without development and implementation of prevention protocols, without special training of police and justice officials, without supportive welfare structures for the victims and the vulnerable.

How can we feel safe when the Mitsotakis government plays our lives at the dice of irresponsible communication management?

How can women feel protected when they turn to the security forces and the untrained and unqualified police officers do not know how to deal with them?

How can we talk about equality, equality, and the rule of law when in our country women are murdered every day with heavy responsibilities of the same merciless government?

No other woman dead, no other woman unprotected.

It is a question of our collective dignity.
