Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze decided to cancel his visit to the United States, because the American side demanded to stop consideration of the draft law “On transparency of foreign influence”.

“The prime minister of Georgia was invited to the United States under the condition that before the visit, the country’s parliament approves the bill on the transparency of foreign influence” temporarily suspend viewing.
The implementation of the conditional visit does not correspond to the spirit of partnership, which should be based on trust and mutual respect, a detailed explanation was given to the US ambassador about this,” the statement said.
Earlier, the American Ambassador Robin Dunnigan said that the Georgian authorities refused the invitation to visit the United States to discuss strategic partnership issues.
On May 1, the Georgian parliament adopted the law “On transparency of foreign influence” in the second reading. 83 deputies voted in favor and 23 deputies voted against. The article-by-article discussion of the law continued for two days. The law will be considered in the third reading in two weeks.
