Kelly Van Petegem is in eighteenth place at the World Monobob Championships in Winterberg, Germany, after the first two runs (out of 26 participants).

In both races, the Belgian Bullet from Merelbeke in East Flanders clocked the eighteenth time (59.33 and 59.17). With her total time of 1.58.50, she was 1.26 slower than the German Lisa Buckwitz. The 29-year-old European champion is in the lead with 1:57.24, ahead of the American Elana Meyers Nolte (second at 0.09) and the Australian Bree Walker (third at 0.11). The German title defender Laura Nolte is currently fourth, 0.18 behind her compatriot. The two remaining runs will be completed on Sunday morning.

The 24-year-old Van Petegem is participating in the Monobob World Championships for the first time. At the beginning of this month she won the European Cup in this discipline.

Last year, Laura Nolte won the world title in Sankt Moritz, Switzerland, ahead of the American Kaillie Humphries and Lisa Buckwitz.

On Friday, Kim Meylemans gave Belgium silver at the Skeleton World Championships in Winterberg.
