Kaļversh makes his CX cross country World Cup debut – Cycling – Sportacentrs.com

Matīss Kalveršs has currently chosen cross country CX as his type of cycling. In the autumn the islander competed in the stages of the Estonian series and, together with his family, members and the Latvian Cycling Federation, organized the Latvian championship. In a dramatic battle, Matís won second place, losing to Māris Bogdanović in the final meters.

Matīss, with the support of his family, has accepted a new challenge and wants to participate in the TOP international competitions in the winter period. In the last days of the year, Kalvers was in the city of Hulst, in the Netherlands, where he made his World Cup debut.

In the eleventh stage of the competition, 100 athletes competed in the men’s elite. Among them are two legends of the sport: Mathieu van der Poole, Tom Pidcock and Wout van Aart. The race course was very muddy with many falls. Misfortune also struck Pidcock and van Aart, while Mathieu van der Pool mounted a solo attack that led to a comfortable victory. In the one-hour race, he beat his closest pursuer, Joris Nieuwenhuis, by 12 seconds.

Matīss Kalveršs finished in 89th place on his debut. The experience gained will come in handy in view of the next World Championship, which is also one of the objectives of this CX season.
