Amman – Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi confirmed on Monday that the world is “incapable of stopping the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip,” considering that restricting worshipers’ access to Al-Aqsa and tampering with the holy sites is “tampering with fire.”

This came during a press conference in the capital, Amman, with the Vatican’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bishop Paul Richard Gallagher, as part of an official visit of unannounced duration, which the latter is conducting to the Kingdom, according to Anadolu’s correspondent.

Al-Safadi stated, “The month of Ramadan is the month of mercy, safety, and tranquility, but unfortunately, this is not the reality that 2.3 million people in Gaza are experiencing as they continue to suffer from the brutality of the Israeli aggression.”

He continued, “The Palestinians are suffering from a painful reality that we must change. Unfortunately, 5 months have passed since this conflict and the world has been unable to implement international law and international humanitarian law, and to stand up to restore human dignity.”

He stated that the situation is “very difficult” in the West Bank, stressing that “Israel’s unilateral measures, including violations of the sanctity of Islamic and Christian sanctities and restrictions on the right to perform worship, change the reality on the ground and do not contribute to establishing peace, nor even to achieving the two-state solution.”

He added: “Israel must lift such restrictions, respect freedom of worship, and allow worshipers to perform their religious duties during the month of Ramadan.”

He explained in the same context that “tampering with holy sites is tampering with fire, and we urge you and all countries of the world to do everything possible to ensure that Israel respects the legal and historical status in the Holy Lands.”

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation (official) said on Sunday evening that, in an exceptional step, Netanyahu currently intends to take responsibility for making the decision on the issue of whether or not the police will storm Al-Aqsa Mosque during the month of Ramadan.

She explained that Netanyahu approved the proposal of the General Security Agency (Shin Bet) and the army, that the decision to storm the Al-Aqsa Mosque by the police could not be taken except with the approval of Netanyahu himself.

During the past few weeks, the Shin Bet and the army called on Netanyahu to make the decision himself, in an unusual manner, regarding whether to storm the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque. Because this is an event that could lead to many possible consequences, according to the authority.

Al-Safadi stressed: “We want peace in the region, we want peace for the Palestinians, the Israelis, and the entire region, and we want to give the legitimate right to the Palestinians to establish their state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, where it lives side by side in peace and security with Israel.”

He pointed out that “the Israeli aggression has gone too far and must be stopped, and there is no way for the international community to accept that people die of hunger in this era and time.”

While the Vatican Foreign Minister said, “Pope Francis believes that this aggression must end, and the Vatican seeks and continues to demand a ceasefire, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, and make efforts to resolve this terrible conflict.”

He added: “Pope Francis is in almost daily contact with the Catholic Church in Gaza, and is well informed about the situation in Gaza. We referred to many of those involved in the ongoing conflict in Gaza and appealed to them to preserve the sanctities in accordance with international law, and this was responded to to some extent.”

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving tens of thousands of civilian victims, most of them children and women, a humanitarian catastrophe, massive infrastructure destruction, and famine in a number of areas, which led to Tel Aviv appearing before the International Court of Justice on charges of “genocide.” “.
