Jolana Voldánová (55): I don’t like to look back, I’m only interested in what is now! | For women

I have three things in common with Jolana. We both come from eastern Bohemia, we were both born under the sign of Capricorn, and we both tried in vain to get into DAMU. That is probably why she is so close to me and I will remember this cordial meeting for a long time. And the first question suggests itself.

You dreamed of acting. So I’m wondering if you were offered a theater or TV role right now, would you take it?

I don’t really play the “what if” game. I’m a pretty pragmatic Capricorn about this. I mostly keep my feet firmly on the ground and don’t float in castles in the air. On the other hand, I have a fairly vivid imagination and sometimes some crazy things come to mind, but they belong only to the category of daydreaming. So what you’re asking also crossed my mind, but I think only a crazy person would want to cast an inexperienced middle-aged woman in a professional acting role.

But you performed on stage a few years ago. Even with volunteers.

It is true. A few years ago, I staged a conversation piece with the very good theater company Dobřichovická theater company. It was very nice. I rekindled my old love and at the same time verified that stage performance is specific and completely different from ordinary performance. And it was also confirmed to me that I really belonged somewhere else a long time ago.

The camera is more civil…

If such an offer really came, I would consider it for a long time, I would care a lot about who is shooting it and what kind of story it is. Maybe it would put a bug in my head, that’s for sure, but I can’t guess how I would react. This brings us back to the fact that I don’t like “what ifs”. Thinking on this level is actually a waste of time for me.

It would be a challenge. I get the impression that you like challenges and are brave. It is so?

Definitely yes. But for me, only a certain amount of risk and adventure is tolerable. This would probably be too much, maybe over the edge.

What was the biggest challenge you took on?

Perhaps the fact that I joined television thirty years ago and threw myself into editorial and then presenter work. I was definitely not the type of journalist who gets kicked out and climbs in through a window. This kind of overcoming myself in consistently demanding answers to specific questions was a big challenge for me and a certain barrier that I had to deal with. I used to be quite shy at the beginning of my career.

Your decision to leave Czech Television from one day to the next was certainly a big challenge requiring courage. It’s been more than eleven years. How do you look back?

It would be courage if I really did it day by day. But I carefully and carefully considered it, weighing the pros and cons on those imaginary bowls for almost two years. So then it wasn’t a leap into the unknown or some impulsive decision, but actually a pretty well thought out move.
