The Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) will investigate the attack with rockets and mortars perpetrated by the guerrilla of the FARC in Bogotá on August 7, 2002 during Álvaro Uribe’s inauguration as president, an event that left 19 dead and 40 injured.

The investigation, the high court detailed, is part of case 10 on non-amnestiable crimes committed by the FARC.

For this reason, the JEP Recognition Chamber ordered inspections of offices of the local Mayor’s Office of San Cristóbal, in Bogotá, as well as the Secretariats of Health and Social Integration of the Colombian capital; the National Police, and the Infantry Battalion No. 37 ‘Presidential Guard’ of the Army.

“The purpose of these judicial inspections is to identify data on all direct and indirect victims of the events that occurred that day,” the information added.

On August 7, 2002, the FARC launched rockets and mortars against the Casa de Nariño, headquarters of the Executive, shortly before Uribe’s inauguration as president.

Some rockets deviated and fell on homes of El Cartucho, a neighborhood in the center of Bogotá, and they killed 19 people and injured 40 others.
