While the semi-final with the Swedes was like a raspberry for us, when we won 7:3, tonight’s gold match with the Swiss was nerve-wracking for everyone who watched it. And perhaps everyone was watching, because the Czech national team was playing at home and the wait for the gold was more tense than ever, the unexpected delay of the entire match was a broken plexiglass that had to be replaced.

In the end, we succeeded and after fourteen years we are world champions with gold on home soil, but we had to wait for a boost until the last third. The Swiss were extremely tenacious and didn’t give us anything for free or give us anything and it was extremely difficult to get past their defense. Only David Pastrňák was able to do that, who scored the first goal at 49:13, for which it was the first point ever in the fourth game of the tournament.

The Swiss then tried to play in six without a goalkeeper two minutes before the end, but eventually he returned to the game and after our second goal, the spectators not only in the O2 arena, but all over the country counted down the seconds.
