Iran will respond to any threat from the United States, the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Hossein Salami, said on Wednesday, as Washington assesses its response to the killing of US military personnel by Tehran-aligned militants.

“We hear threats coming from US authorities, we tell them that they have already tested us and now we know each other, no threat will go unanswered,” Salami said, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

In January 2020, the Revolutionary Guard attacked the US base of Ain al-Asad in Iraq following a US drone strike in Baghdad that killed Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s elite Quds Force.

Iran’s envoy to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, also warned on Wednesday that Tehran would respond decisively to any attack on its territory, its interests or Iranian citizens outside its borders.

The Iranian officials’ comments came a day after US President Joe Biden announced that he had decided how to respond to a drone attack carried out by Iran-aligned Iraqi groups that killed US military personnel in Jordan, without entering into details.

Several Iranian Revolutionary Guards were killed following Israeli attacks in Syria, with five members dying on January 20 and two others on December 25.

On Monday, another Israeli attack hit what Tasnim described as an “Iranian military advisory center” in Syria, killing two people, but Iran’s envoy to Syria denied details about the target and said the victims were not Iranians. .

On January 15, Iran attacked what it says was an Israeli “spy headquarters” in the semi-autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan.
