Introduction of Hexavalent Vaccine in the Regular Immunization Schedule: Protecting Against Multiple Diseases

This vaccine is incorporated into the regular vaccination schedule and will be applied from Monday June 19 to those born from April 2023 onwards, at 2, 4, 6 and 18 months of life.

Protects against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, hepatitis B, Haemophilus influenzae B, and poliomyelitis.

The Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare takes a step forward in incorporating a new vaccine into the regular vaccination schedule. It is the hexavalent, which protects against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, hepatitis B, Haemophilus influenzae B and poliomyelitis.

The application of the vaccine will begin this Monday, June 19, and will be administered to those born from April 2023 onwards, at 2, 4, 6 and 18 months of life.

It is essential to grant the children of the country their right to protection against the aforementioned diseases and the others contemplated in the vaccination scheme. The scheme of our country is one of the most complete in the region.

What happens to those born before April 2023?

Boys and girls who were born before April 2023, and who have already received the pentavalent and anti-polio vaccine, should continue with the vaccination schedule they have started, since they protect against the same diseases as the hexavalent.

As for the child who has started their hexavalent vaccination scheme in the private sector, who already had this vaccine, they will be able to complete it in any of the public services, starting next Monday.

Next, the regular scheme with the inclusion of the hexavalent according to age:

Newborn: BCG vaccine: severe forms of tuberculosis. HEPB vaccine: hepatitis B virus – pediatric.

2 months: rotavirus vaccine, Hexavalent vaccine (diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough pertussis, hepatitis B, poliomyelitis (inactivated), Haemophilus influenzae B). 13-valent conjugate pneumococcal vaccine: pneumonia, meningitis, otitis.

4 months: rotavirus vaccine, Hexavalent vaccine (diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough pertussis, hepatitis B, poliomyelitis (inactivated), Haemophilus influenzae B). 13-valent conjugate pneumococcal vaccine: pneumonia, meningitis, otitis.

6 months: Hexavalent vaccine (diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, pertussis, hepatitis B, poliomyelitis (inactivated), Haemophilus influenzae B).

6 to 35 months: seasonal influenza, annual dose.

12 months: 13-valent conjugate pneumococcal vaccine: pneumonia, meningitis, otitis. MMR vaccine: measles, mumps, rubella. AA vaccine: yellow fever.

15 months: chickenpox vaccine: severe pictures and complications from chickenpox. Hepatitis A vaccine: serious pictures and complications due to hepatitis A.

18 months: Hexavalent vaccine (diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, pertussis, hepatitis B, poliomyelitis (inactivated), Haemophilus influenzae B). MMR vaccine: measles, mumps, rubella.

4 years: IPV vaccine: poliomyelitis. DPT vaccine: diphtheria, pertussis or whooping cough, tetanus.

5 years: varicella vaccine.

Adolescents (9 to 14 years): HPV vaccine: Human Papillomavirus (only women). Tdpa vaccine: diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough or whooping cough.
