Vienna (OTS) – Domestic industrial companies are constantly working to broaden the energy supply and thus reduce the consumption of fossil gases in the long term. “However, it must also be clear to us during the discussion that natural gas will continue to play a key role in the manufacturing sector until measures such as increased expansion of renewable energies or the import of climate-neutral hydrogen allow a significant reduction in natural gas.” , emphasizes IV General Secretary Christoph Neumayer and continues: “In view of this, today’s announcement regarding the financing of the expansion of the WAG loop is good news for energy supply security, also against the background of the uncertainties resulting from Russia’s war of aggression on Ukraine. On the part of the industry, we have been pointing out the urgent need for political action for some time. Further steps must now follow quickly.” Critics often believe that expanding the gas infrastructure would mean sticking to old concepts, but the WAG loop proves the opposite, because in this case the retrofitting or upgrading of the existing gas network for the transport of climate-neutral gas is necessary Hydrogen possible. “In this way, we secure the energy supply today and tomorrow,” says Neumayer.
