The Sopron Police Department has initiated proceedings in connection with the circus accident that occurred on Saturday due to the careless endangerment committed in the course of employment. The procedure was initiated against an unknown perpetrator, the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Police Headquarters wrote to Index.
As we reported, there was an accident during the performance of the Flórián Richter Circus on Saturday afternoon, during the performance of the aerial gymnastics group Flying Henríquez, when one of the artists missed a move and fell into the abyss. The man who fell on the protective net was not injured, however, one of the columns supporting the net tilted onto the auditorium due to the load and hit one of the guests on the head. The middle-aged man who suffered the accident was transported to the hospital in Győr in a life-threatening condition, unconscious.
The circus launched an internal investigation. A statement about the accident was shared on Facebook on Saturday, in which it was called an unfortunate accident and it was written that “an ambulance was immediately called to the man who suffered the accident, who is undergoing professional medical treatment.” The circus director said he was sorry for what had happened and that they were devastated by what had happened. As the National Ambulance Service later announced, the man suffered a serious skull injury and was transported to a trauma center.
After the accident, several witnesses spoke, one of them was sitting with her two children and her husband only inches from the impacting pile. The woman said that it was impossible to defend herself, and as soon as the impact happened, the man immediately turned from his chair.
